Save Open Spaces for future generations
Posted Tuesday, 17 November 2009 By Kim Swan
Good Evening Bermuda:

We Bermudians are probably some of the most travelled people (per capita)in the world.

Whenever I travel there is a sense of, it is nice to return to Bermuda, no matter where I have been or how good a time I have had. But today whenever I return to Bermuda and look out over the island from the plane - I cannot help but grow concerned at the lack of open spaces in Bermuda.

We as a people must become the watch dogs for future generations now - socially we see signs of our country becoming a mirror image of urban America, and ironically, we have also seen a major reduction in our open spaces over the past 30 YEARS as well.

We cannot turn back the clock, but we can recognize the need to develop strategies to protect open spaces at all cost for future generations. This is not to say that there are not strategies in place - but to encourage environmentalist to become more vigilant than ever in the months and years ahead.

Rspectfully,

Charlie Swan calls for Long Bay in Somerset to cater to Dockyard Cruise Ship passengers

Charlie Swan (UBP) Opposition MP was wrongly ridiculed by Sandy's MP's during the motion to adjourn in March 2011 when he suggested that Somerset Long Bay was an ideal place to take cruise ship visitors arriving at Dockyard. Mr Swan said instead of being transported all the way to Horseshoe Bay or beyond, they could enjoy a much more convenient beach location in the West End, if money was spent to create proper facilities. Last night a Sandy's Rotary the Small Business (Sandy's EEZ) revealed this as a proposal under consideration.
